Proceeding from a british organization, the La Street Child World Cup was launched in 2010 during the World Cup in South Africa. The second edition took place in Rio de Janeiro on April 2014 and gathered 230 former street kids, coming from 19 different countries. Dario and other young kids from the NGO “O Pequeno Nazareno” (Fortaleza) represented Brazil in the men’s competition.
#IAmSomebody, is the slogan of the Street Child World Cup, whose main purpose is to raise public awareness and draw attention on street children’s status and rights, and on the way they are generally treated. In Brazil, the organization fights for a better protection of street children in Brazilian law, from which they currently remain absent.
