Fortaleza is often considered the capital of sex tourism of Brazil. Since the beginning of the 90’s, the city became the ideal tourist destination due to its idyllic beaches and luxury hotels, but also thanks to the abundant offer in terms of prostitution. It appears that an international network giving access to these services has been considerably flourishing.
Women, transsexuals and children: the market offers many possibilities. Fortaleza is also particularly “famous” for its child sex tourism.
According to the National Forum for the prevention of child labour, the number of child sex cases in Brazil reached 500 000 in 2012. A five-fold increase over 10 years, a UNICEF estimation found.
